Family Day is coming up and Team Metherall has some GREAT ideas for you! Whether you want to stay local or plan something a little special in the GTA – we’ve got something for everyone! Discover some serious family fun ahead…

LOCAL FISHING

Did you know that four times a year, you DO NOT need a license to fish in Ontario? Well, one of those dates is THIS weekend. Get your fish on for free! No license required from Feb 19 – 21.

Now, as far as finding a place to drop your line, well you have 52 km of Lake Simcoe shoreline to choose from. For more info on Fishing Hut Operators click here. OR if you plan on parking and walking onto the lake, then click here to find out where parking is free.

LOCAL TUBING, TOBOGGANING, SNOWSHOEING & SKATING

The one place you can tick ALL these things off your list is Georgina’s Winter Gem: THE ROC! Bring your own toboggan and enjoy the big hill, rent snowshoes for free and tour the beautiful trails, or go tubing to feel the thrill of speed and adventure! It’s HOURS of fun! Be sure to BOOK AHEAD to reserve your spot.

If you want to grab a hot chocolate and enjoy a huge open space to skate, discover The Pefferlaw Ice Pad! It’s  80 x 180 ft of open air and space with hockey boards. Enjoy hours of skating there with the fam jam!

HIKING OR NATURE WALKS

Sometimes all you need is nature. Walking with your family on a forest trail creates many wonderful opportunities for connection and memory making – and pets can join on this adventure too! Georgina has SO MANY trails to choose from.

This year, maybe consider trying the Aurora Forest Bathing Event. Slanja Forest Bathing Walks are an amazing way to learn more about forest life, trees, nature and to immerse yourself in being truly mindful and present. It’s a GREAT family activity and there’s also a tea and craft involved! Find out more about this event here.

BLUE MOUNTAIN

Have you had enough of being “at home” the past few years? We don’t blame you! If you need a little weekend getaway adventure, there is always good old Blue Mountain!

Discover over 40 trails, with 30 of them lit for night skiing, plus skating, tubing, and more for the whole family to enjoy. Sunrise Ski starts at 6:30am sharp and the fun continues till sundown! Choose from fun-filled, activities other than skiing like Fat Biking, Hiking, the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster, Mountaintop Skating, Snowshoeing, and the Aquatic Centre inside. There is fun for everyone in the family!

Done with the Cold Weather? WE GOT YOU!

Okay so not everyone in the family loves snow. Here are some great activities to enjoy:

Reptilia – Take a ride down to Whitby or Vaughn and discover over 250 species of reptiles, amphibians and arachnids from all around the world. Get your tickets here.

Ripley’s Aquarium – Walk through hallways built within the “sea world” and be in awe of the underwater creatures that swim by. Enjoy exploring the Discovery Centre, Kelp Forest, and Dangerous Lagoon Overlook! Afterwards, stop by the Shoreline Gallery and Gift Shop. Buy tickets online to ensure your spot.

Movie Theatre – Escape the cold, grab buttery popcorn and candy and watch a movie together!

Air Riderz – Aurora has an awesome trampoline park and it’s open on Family Day from 10am to 9pm! Book ahead to reserve your time slot. Jump on trampolines, test your nerves at the Leap of Faith section, or go rock climbing!
