Post-Christmas Clutter Tips
We love the holidays, but the clutter after the unwrapping can make it feel like you’re drowning, especially if you have kids and 80% of it is new toys. So, here are some tips on tackling the post Christmas clutter!
Start with the Wrapping
· First, tackle the wrapping paper, Christmas bags, ribbons, etc.
· Have a recycling bin, garbage bag & “keep it” box to sort bags & tissue paper to reuse
· Sort accordingly
· For all those lovely holiday greeting cards, you could keep them in a box, OR you can take a photo of the card and keep a digital copy to save space
Get Rid of Boxes
· A lot of people keep their iPhone or Samsumg phone boxes – TOSS THEM!
· Take out any instruction manuals from all devices or toys and sort them in a file
· Recycle the boxes
· This is actually a HUGE part of the clutter and makes a BIG difference once sorted
Tackle the Toys
· Have your kids help you with this; it’s a great opportunity to teach them about donating
· Sort through what to keep & donate
· Then rearrange their new toys in their rooms or play area
Roll the Throws
· The holidays are about Netflix and Chillin’ on the couch watching holiday movies
· Blankets, throws and pillows can get out of control
· Roll blankets up and put them in a basket near the couch
Get Smart About Storage: Use Bins & Baskets
· Bins: are for items that are not used daily. Add these items to bins, then label them
· Bin Examples: Crossword puzzle books, crafting supplies, magazines – basically things you take out once or twice a week or so.
· Baskets: are for items that you use daily but would like items to have a “place” to live when not in use.
· Basket examples: Low rectangular basket on table top surface for keys, phone, etc.
· A basket under the coffee table for remote controls, game controllers, etc.
